Day 7 - Scuffle at The Stag

Swords flashed and flickered as The Stag was swallowed up in the chaos of combat.  Bursts of magic and blaster fire illuminated the haze of dust and debris, violent bolts of energy flying every direction.  Ahnuil kept low using the bar for cover, she crept forward tracking her target by smell alone.  She could hear Gren's distinctive voice off to her left, it sounded as if things were going well even if she had lost focus of their goal again.  A large Orc lumbered into view a grin crossing it's flat face as it spotted Ahnuil.
"I always wanted a snake skin bag." It hefted a large axe, slapping the flat of the blade against the plam of an open hand.
"You're going to have to wait a little longer, no-nose." Standing to full height Ahnuil lifted the point of her sword assuming a defensive posture.
The Orc let out a gutteral yowl and charged, its first swing knocked Ahnuil's sword clear before swinging back around to come down at her shoulder.  Ahnuil side stepped the blow, feinted a slash at the Orc's midsection, and followed that up with a lunge as she attempted to skewer the Orc right through its middle.  The Orc

Day 6 - On Hiatus

I wrote a thing for Day 6, and on time, however I didn't get to finish it, and posting it unfinished is really bothering me, so, I'm going to post this here in stead.  I'm going to move what I wrote for Day 6 onto Day 7, and keep going from there.

Day 5 - Missed Deadline

Missed this deadline, again for no real good reasons other than not making it a priority.  I kind of feel like I'm missing the point by just saying "Oops, missed that one."  I'm thinking about doing "make up posts" or something like that.  I'll think about it some more before making any decisions.

In the mean time: just keep swimming, just keep swimming.

Day 4 - Return to Valkana

The bar was dirty.  One might expect that from the stuttering, sparking, off red neon sign hung above the door that read 'The Stag'.  Down a flight of steps from street level and past piles of some sort of acrid refuse the pair pushed through the rust pitted door and into one of the oldest establishments in Nestora.  Ahnuil's grey blue scales and Gren's red hair set them apart from the everything else, two vibrant splashes of color amidst the dingy and mildewed walls.
As the tall one of the pair, it was Ahnuil's job to be the eyes of the operation.  The Saurian scrutinized her surroundings, searching for their target.  Spotting their quarry she tapped Gren on the shoulder and pointed, trying to speak over the noise that passed for music in this place would have been pointless. Gren's role was much more straight forward, it was how she got her name after all.

Day 3 - A New Home

"You know why living out here is the best a man could ask for?" Mik took a moment to savour the flavor of his cigar for a moment, a slow lazy twist of smoke rising up into sky.  "Because every man is his own king."
"That might be true, but, every king out here has to work like a dog to get by." Edgar surveyed the reddish hard scrabble land that his homestead sat on.  It had taken him five years to get the land to this state, and things were just starting to look up.
"Ah but that's just the way it aught to be innit?"
     "Working like a dog everyday?"
"Nah, a man being responsible for his own prosperity." Mik waved his hand towards the horizon, cigar pinched between two fingers.  "You don't get nothing if you don't work for it out here."
"That's cause there is precious little out here."
"You always gotta be down on everything don't ya Edgar?  What's wrong with having to do a little work every now and again?  Makes you appreciate the simple things in life a little more."
"Everything out here is simple, we've hardly got anything on this rock." Edgar kicked a small stone from the edge of the concrete porch to punctuate his point.
"And back home where they have all the fancy things you are missin' do you think they appreciate them?  Do you think someone comes home from a long day at work, sits down to a meal and thinks about how nice it will be to have a nice hot piece of meat?  Or sits down in a nice leather covered chair and thinks about comfortable it is?  It's common place for them, they don't even think about it."
Edgar knew he would not change Mik's mind about this, it was an old topic of conversation between the two of them, "Still would be nice to have every once in a while."
"Yes, every once in a while it would.  Too often and you don't even recognize it for what it is anymore."
Edgar looked up at the shimmering blue star hanging low in the sky, "You think we'll ever go back?"
Mik's cigar rested in the ash tray, the last tendrils of the smoke drifting away on a weak wind, "I doubt it.  If they were interested in bringin people back, we wouldn't be running these terraforming plants would we?"

Day 2 - Missed Deadline

Well, that didn't take very long.  Yesterday was a good day filled with friends, barbeque, and relaxing.  I have no excuses as to why I didn't write anything, I simply didn't make time to do so, which is exactly what this is about - making time to write everyday.

Also, something didn't work with my automatic publishing.  There are always technical kinks to work out.  I've also decided that I'm going to track the time spent writing, just for curiousity's sake.

Day 1 - Negotiations on Valkana

"We'll give it to ya for fifty gold.  It's a relic of the Chaos War.  Tales say it belonged to Arnon Reed himself before he died."  The Saurian used a jeweled dagger to pick something from between his jagged teeth as he waited to hear the sage's impressed reaction.  A slight uninterested murmur was all he got in response.

365 Days of Writing

A friend is doing a 365 day art challenge to improve her art.  This sounds like a great idea to me.  I have been meaning to get back to writing and I seriously need to improve my craft, so, taking on this challenge (except writing in stead of drawing) is exactly the kick in the ass that I need.
